Succession planning is downright difficult in our industry. You have spent a life building relationships with those you work with and a legacy of your name. It is not easy to turn this over to another generation or an outsider, but inevitably it must be done. How do you do it—logistically and emotionally? How do you make sure your promises are fulfilled? How do you avoid what you fear most? This open forum panel was set to address these questions and more.

For more than 30 years, Anthony has worked with ultra-high net worth, high net worth and high-income individuals and owners of closely held businesses. He continues to work with families listed in the Forbes 400 list, as well as start-up entrepreneurs. He has worked alongside many of the most revered legal, tax and financial advisors in the country, and he continues to do so. His passion lies in collaborating with other advisors and bringing the transformative value of the collective intellect to the client engagement. Whether working with affluent patriarchs on estate planning and asset protection, with closely held businesses on business strategy, risk management and financial controls, or working with high income individuals to secure their retirement dreams, the objectives have always been the same. Anthony continuously strives to reduce the taxes and financial risks his clients face while increasing their net worth and simplifying their personal and business lives. For the past eight years Anthony has been actively engaged in studying the business models adopted by the greater financial advisory industry and accounting industry, and in 2018 he launched a company dedicated to preparing CPA’s and Financial Advisors to exit their practices for maximum value.

Anthony is an active member of the AICPA Family Office Group, and a CPA licensed by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. He makes his home in Southlake, Texas.

Fun fact: Anthony’s mother is an Australian citizen, and his parents met and married during World War II.

Angela Kennedy Robinson CRC®

Angela Kennedy Robinson joined her father and her brother in the family business in 2006. Together and now with her husband as well, they help individuals and families work to create and sustain their Life Plans. Angela pens an editorial each week pertaining to one of the 8 Life Planning Issues their firm embraces and is published in the firm’s newsletter as well as random magazines and news publications. She also hosts Life Planning 101, a weekly radio show that is broadcasted on KATX, KWBY, IHeartRadio, iTunes, GooglePlay, and Spotify. In 2016, her family launched the long-overdue RIA, Smart Money Group LLC. This Advisors for Advisors group is independent and passionate about the planning industry with one single focus—to give advisors the freedom to positively impact their lives and all the lives around them. The RIA encompasses other highly successful firms like their own that are readying their own succession plans. Smart Money Group has created a coaching and open forum environment for the success of these next generation advisors.
Like her father and brother, Angela has a passion to help people and spends countless hours looking for ways to add value the families and advisors they work with. She holds several licenses, is a Certified Retirement Counselor ® and is a part of several professional organizations in the industry. In fact, she is a member of two “by invitation only” organizations—Crump Potomac Affluent Markets and Forum 400, which has allowed her to gain knowledge and wisdom from the very best in the planning industry.
Angela and her husband, Bret call Eastland, Texas home. Along with their son, Seely, they thrive living in small town America. They are constantly helping with community, church and children’s activities. And, there is no other place they would rather be than on a horse in the roping arena. Bret grew up on a ranch in Montana, and Angela on one right there in Eastland, Texas. This way of life, they call the cowboy way, was instilled in each of them in their own childhood and is the same way of life they want to leave in their legacy.

Jim Kennedy began his financial career in banking in Comanche, Texas in 1973. He has since worked in, studied, taught, and written for the investment, finance and insurance industry in various capacities. In 1989 he started Kennedy Financial Services—a Life Planning Firm that is dedicated to helping entrepreneurs, individuals and families plan holistically for their financial future as well as their legacy. With his entrepreneurial background and the combined experiences of each of his clients over the last 30 years, Jim brings a completely unique perspective to the Life Planning table. He has since been joined in business by his eldest son, daughter and her husband. The family shares a vision to not only continue the legacy that was started by Jim, but also use their RIA, Smart Money Group, LLC to coach and mentor other next-generation advisors as the succession plan to successful firms like theirs. Jim, never attending college has taken it upon himself to spend countless hours since his career began in 1973 traveling, learning and being coached by the best in the world. In addition to his many licenses and professional designations such as CMFC®, CRC® and LUTCF®, he was part of The Strategic Coach® Program with Dan Sullivan himself for more than ten years. He has also been part of countless professional organizations and think tank forums over the years surrounding himself with the best in the industry.
He and his wife, Meg, live on Hanging Tree Ranch in rural Texas spend their free time away working and enjoying their cattle and mules, or planning a chuck wagon or barbecue event. Throughout his life, everyone told him he needed to move to the city to be successful. Jim is proof to not let anyone tell you no. Tony joined GPS in 1993 after completing his formal education at BYU-Idaho. 

As a partner/advisor at GPS, Tony focuses on developing his client's specific vision for their future. Tony serves family businesses that rely on his direct and honest approach to business planning, investment advice, risk management and insurance planning. He meets with each client at their place of business to gain valuable perspective of the culture and values they are implementing in their businesses.

Daniel Zeplain
Treyled Insurance

Daniel Zeplain brings many years of experience focusing on estate planning services, and asset protection for his clients.  Daniel started in the insurance industry following the sudden passing of his father, Alan Zeplain, who founded Treyled Insurance in 1994.

At age 23, Daniel was the youngest principal of a Brokerage General Agency (BGA) in the United States.  Daniel was recognized as one of the youngest members to ever qualify and join the Million Dollar Round Table and has continued to qualify for Top of the Table honors since. 

Daniel is also a member of the Forum 400, an elite organization comprised of leaders in production and innovation in financial and life insurance services.  Membership is restricted to 400 professionals nationwide; however, there are currently only 280 advisors who meet the rigorous qualifying standards as this group consists of the top life insurance professionals in the industry.

Since joining Treyled, Daniel has transformed the agency from a processing center for independent life agents to a full-service life organization focused on servicing the “non-traditional” life agent.  Treyled primarily works with Wealth Managers, Benefits and P&C firms, Private Equity groups, and Banks.  The organization focuses on turn-key, white glove solutions for advisors ranging from point-of-sale assistance to advanced case design.

Daniel is a native Houstonian who attended The Kinkaid School and graduated in 2003.  He then attended the University of Georgia where he graduated with a BBA from the Terry College of Business in 2007.  Daniel currently resides in Houston with his wife and two children.

Cary Stamp & Co

Cary was born on a Philadelphia, PA naval base during the height of the Viet Nam War. He and his younger brother Jeremy grew up in Urbandale, Iowa. Cary’s parents are Iowa natives who still reside in the suburbs of Des Moines. Cary attended West Des Moines Valley High School where he was very active on their award winning debate team. Leading his team to victories in several national tournaments, Cary helped make West Des Moines Valley one of the nation’s top high school debate teams. Cary was awarded a full ride scholarship for his incisive debate skills to the University of Southern California and then the University of Iowa where he earned his B.A. in History. Cary served as the debate team president for the A. Craig Baird Debate Forum at the University of Iowa as well as the Scholarship Chair and President of Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity.
After graduating from the University of Iowa, Cary started his career at Piper Jaffray, Inc. in 1990. At 29, he was an Associate Branch Manager for Principal Securities in Chicago. In 2002, Cary left the corporate brokerage environment and started a boutique firm in Chicago affiliated with Commonwealth Financial Network®. In 2006, Cary fulfilled his lifelong dream of living in a warmer climate and near the water when he moved his family and his business to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. In 2011, Cary relocated the offices of Cary Stamp & Company to the Tequesta area. Cary is a frequent speaker on financial planning topics, has written many financial articles and has been quoted in print and on broadcast media. Cary and his lovely wife Sharon have one daughter, Sarah. Cary coached his daughter’s soccer team for several years and enjoys attending her gymnastic competitions. Sarah attends The Benjamin School in Palm Beach Gardens and loves to travel, going to summer camp, jet skiing, driving the golf cart for her Dad, and texting. Sharon is an organizational expert who keeps the house and office in top shape.
Cary has a passionate belief in giving back to his community. Recently, Cary and Sharon started volunteering at the Edna Runner Tutorial Center and After Care Facility for low income families in Jupiter, Florida. In addition to his volunteering at the Center for the past five years, he serves on the board the Jupiter Medical Center Foundation, is an Ambassador for the Honda Classic Golf Tournament, was previously a board member for the American Cancer Society, a graduate of the 2011 class of Leadership Palm Beach County and is a member of the 100 Friends of the First Tee of the Palm Beaches. A member of a Tequesta area golf club, Cary loves to golf. He has a single digit handicap and it is his dream to someday play golf on every continent.
